GIVI Magazine - Novembre 2014
ENGLISH TEXT WELCOME TO INTERMOT WE ASKED PATRIK JANCKE, THE “HEAD” OF GIVI GERMANY, TO TELL US ABOUT THE GREAT GERMAN SHOW...FROM HIS POINT OF VIEW. BETWEEN HIS PERSONAL THOUGHTS AND ENCOUNTERS WITH PEOPLE AT THE STAND...HERE’S THE REPORT. G ermany is a country that has a close relationship with the motor- cycle. More than 100 events are held throughout the year ranging from those organized in small towns, with a few dozen visitors, to those which manage to gather a few hundred, to the big open-air exhibition of Dormunt, which in spring gathers up to 100,000 motorcycle enthusiasts. In addition to all of this, every other autumn there is the spectacular INTERMOT, the international trade fair dedicated to the motorcycle, which takes place in Cologne. I’ve experienced it from the inside, “overse- eing” the GIVI stand but also carving out time to visit the various pavilions to admire the many new models presented here (Ducati Scrambler, the 3 wheels concept of Yamaha, the Aprilia Capo Nord 1200 Rally…). Just to give some numerical data, this latest edition enjoyed the participation of about 960 brands from 37 countries. The number of visitors reached 200,000 including professionals, journalists, and the public, who came from 105 different countries! The majority were obviou- sly Germans who in this case were playing at home. Intermot has a dual role, in the initial days it functions as a business-to-business trade show, and then becomes a showcase for the public in the second half, adding a good dose of entertainment. I think anyone who was in Cologne would agree with me that the edition that just ended was a real “blast”. Previews of a large number of new models were introduced as well as new accessories, clothing, innovative ideas, and in- teresting prototypes. Indeed the list of positi- ves is quite long and includes the motorcycle industry represented in full force, the great location, the weather which helped a lot, and the friendly atmosphere just to mention a few. “Wedged” in the midst of all this was GIVI with its super popular stand and previews of new products, including the last minute addition of the new MAXIA4 top case. Having a presence at Intermot with a large stand involves a considerable investment of personnel and equipment. Turning to the figures, more than 25 employees from Italy, Germany, France and even the Far East worked the GIVI stand. Together we took care of thousands of people, from opening to closing, including customers and end users. To provide an idea of the importance of this event, for example, is the fact that our importer in Taiwan came to the stand with more than 20 of its dealers to see all our new products. Friday was busy with the arrival of Lucio Cecchi- nello of the Honda LCR team. With him was one of the current national heroes: Stefan Bradl. The news spread in a flash and within a few minutes the stand was besieged by a crowd of fans see- king autographs and selfies. Stefan is much loved by fans of motorcycle racing. It has been a long time since a German driver has attained signifi- cant results in MotoGP. Spending many hours in contact with those who buy our products offers us the opportunity to “test the waters”. Thinking about this article ahead of time I had the idea to interview a few of them. Here are some of the views collected. Monika fromMunich: “I have ridden motorbikes since the age of 18, and from the beginning I have chosen GIVI cases. I recently bought a new Honda VFR800 and, despite analyzing the alternatives offered by other brands, in the end, I found the V35 side bags to be the best choice. No other ma- nufacturer has a line that fits so perfectly with the line of the bike. At your stand I can see and touch all the new products and this makes me want to buy everything. Too bad that the regulations pro- captions 1) OUR STAND IS COMPLETELY OPEN TO THE CORRIDOR AND INVITES THE PUBLIC TO COME IN. IN THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT, STEFAN BRADL, MOTOGP PILOT OF THE HONDA LCR TEAM, IS BUSY SIGNING POSTERS. 2) ON OUR STAND RIDERS CAN HANDLE, OPEN, DETACH AND TEST… THIS FRIENDLY APPROACH TO OUR PRODUCTS AND THE ADDITION OF OUR STAFF IS REALLY VALUED. hibit sales at the exhibition (she laughs)”. Erik from Sweden: “We (a group of 5) came to Cologne by motorcycle. It is about 800 km here fromMalmö where we live, half of which was spent in the rain. The show is truly amazing. We are happy because we had talked about coming to Cologne for some time now. We finally made it. Coming down the hallway we saw the GIVI stand and the showcase with the new MAXIA top case. Two of us have long used a previous version, probably one of the first models given that it dates back at least 10 years. Despite their age they are still waterproof and in very good shape”. Carsten from Frankfurt (dealer): “The number of new GIVI products is amazing! I was really surprised at the extent of the types of products on display. First it was only cases, then came helmets, and now the expansion of the range includes other aspects of the world of motorbikes and scooters that significantly improve driving comfort. Since I’m a dealer could I buy any of the displays you are using here at the stand? They would look really nice in my shop... “ Eberhard from Schwäbisch Hall (journali- st): “I came by the GIVI stand to see the new helmets. For 2 years now I have been using your X.01 with great satisfaction. After just two weeks I bought my wife one also. We have traveled over 20,000 km with that model on our heads! I am very attracted to the new 50.4. How much is it?” Josef from Vienna: “I have a XTZ1200 Yamaha Super Ténéré. I decided to come to the show to have a full understanding of the bag sets available for this bike. Let me tell you honestly that I’ve been stuck here at your bo- oth for more than a quarter of an hour. I have fallen in love with the aluminum OUTBACK. The large top case for 2 helmets and the side bags seem perfect for my needs. If you tell me where I can buy them in Vienna I can go home now. No, just kidding, I still have six hours to visit the show...It was just a figure of speech.” Givi Magazine Novembre 2014 - reportage 45
