24  Turismo Messner Mountain Museum Corones Inaugurated in summer 2015 and designed by the architect Zaha Hadid, the MMM Corones museum, located at the top of Plan de Corones at 2275 metres of altitude, it is the last stage of Reinhold Messner’s project dedicated to the mountain and its culture, which consists of 6 museums in six different places, from Sudtirol to the Bellumo area. In each of the six museums a different aspect of the ‘mountain culture’ is explored. We go from the relationship between man and mountain (MMM Firmian) to the topic of the ‘vertical world’, dedicated in particular to the rock element (MMM Dolomites), to the ‘legend of the mountain’, with its ‘religious’ component (MMM Juval), to the ‘ice worlds’, set up below ground (MMM Ortles), to the ‘people of the mountains (MMM Ripa), ending with the topic of the ‘queen discipline of mountaineering’ presented at the MMM Corones, which is our destination. In this last museum the last 250 years of modern mountaineering are retraced in each of its aspects, through relics of the past, stories, quotes, works of art and videos of great interest. The museum is open from June to October and from November to April, from 10am to 4pm (last entrance at 3,30) and can be reached also on foot following various paths which, depending on your starting point, take you to the top of the mountain in a 4/5-hour walk (from Furcia pass the journey is definitely shorter, 1,30h). There is also a cumulative ticket, the Tour Ticket, which allows you to visit all the museums of the MMM circuit.
