ENGLISH TEXT Givi Magazine May 2016 - Turismo 25 The Prosecco Route (1 h 22 min, 49,4kms) The Prosecco Route, in one of the most beautiful areas for food-and-wine motorbike touring, follows the original route inaugurated in 1966 which links the most important places for the production of Prosecco, moving through beautiful countryside, steeped in history and old traditions. The firs stage and beginning of our journey is the characteristic small city of Conegliano, with its architectural and artistic treasures, to discover wandering through its streets. So we leave our bikes and go for a relaxing walk under the arcade of Contrada Grande to admire the frescoes and the sculpted- stone decorations which embellish the facades of the stately mansions (Monte di Pietà, Palazzo Sarcinelli, Casa Longega). The castle with the bell tower, which hosts the Civic Museum, and the Cathedral of 1345 are considered the real symbols of the town. At the foot of the castle there is the Istituto Enologico Cerletti, founded in 1876, and its 18-hundreds Wine Shop (via XXVIII Aprile 20), which we recommend you visit before moving on. Leaving Conegliano we go towards Collalbrigo, famous area for the production of white wine, and its 17-hundreds Villa Montalban Ghetti. We then reach the ex hermitage of the Camaldoli monks of Rua di San Pietro di Feletto, along gentle curves and green hills which will accompany us until Refrontolo. From here a short deviation takes us to the Molinetto della Croda (XVII Century), an ancient delightful mill nestled in the rocks. We cross in order Solighetto, home of the Consortium which safeguards the Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene Docg wine, Soligo and Farra di Soligo, and finally we see the medieval towers of Credazzo and the small church of San Vigilio which dominate the village of Col San Martino from the top of the hill. We get back on the road towards Colbertaldo and we move north until we reach the Cartizze hill, the area par-excellence of production of the Porsecco Superiore, one of the finest wines of the area. After passing Santo Stefano and San Pietro di Barbozza (home of the Confraternita del Prosecco), we reach Valdobbiadene, where our journey ends at Villa dei Cerdi, ancient factory of the 18-hundreds which hosts, apart from concerts, events and exhibitions, the Forum Spumanti d’Italia in September and Calici di Stelle in August.
