GIVI Magazine - Maggio 2016

ENGLISH TEXT Hi Danilo and thanks for having accepted to open yourself to our readers. At this point present yourself. Age? Role in the company? 42 years old, Technical Manager of the GIVI helmet department Usually we like to get more personal. Are you married? Any children? Do you have any passions (besides riding motorbikes...) Single, no children, I live alone. I have a passion for motors in general (cars, motorbikes, jet skis, planes), I take part in a lot of fairs and gatherings in the motor world. Cinema, music and sport are my other main interests. And we also like to know about work. Tell us about a typical day. How is it structured? There’s always a lot to do, from reminders to suppliers to contacting clients for assistance, internal tests, production control and.. Road tests! Even when a product is already on the market there could be room for improvement. My colleagues and I try the products personally. Helmets are no laughing matter. They must do their job well. Now, just between us, are GIVI helmets safe? Absolutely. We internally perform check tests because we have a lab that simulates the same tests done for the certifications. We need this to certify a helmet knowing it will pass the tests and check production and relative routines (each batch of helmets must pass various test before being sold). A pleasant surprise arrived in March when the English lab SHARP, without us knowing, took some helmets from a shop and tested them awarding our full- face model HPS 50.4 4 stars out of 5. Now we feel a lot safer (not that we felt in any danger before, obviously). From the first helmet sold to the public by GIVI, a sports full-face helmet if we are not mistaken, to today’s production: what has changed from a THE HELMET MAN technical and aesthetic point of view? Is the jet still the most sold model? A lot has changed, because the market has changed and also needs, and fashions. Helmets need to be lighter and more streamlined, the big helmet is not nice to look at and does not sell. Today the mirror test is more important for the biker than in the past... But the materials’ technology has helped us a lot in achieving goals difficult to reach without reducing quality. The jet still sells very well but modular helmets now represent a nice slice of the helmets’ sales cake. We would now like to try and get you to open your heart (which actually means to put you against a wall to get some secrets out of you) What are you up to? To say it more bluntly: any news on the horizon? GIVI wants to increase the offer for helmets to satisfy an ever growing number of clients, so more flexible products (suitable for different uses), increasing quality and comfort. Come on, you can do better that that. You’re putting your job on the line? Light materials, of higher quality and attention to details... I can’t say anything more! That’ll have to do... But we are not leaving you without an anecdote, a curious situation, in some way connected to helmets, that you’ve lived. The greatest satisfaction has been when a private Dutch client presented himself at our headquarters with a semi-destroyed helmet asking for the technical manager. His exact words: “I fell on the track at 200km/h, this helmet saved my life! I’m going to buy another one. Thank you!” Naturally we’ve kept the helmet... Good luck with your work and sorry for prying (but if you want to tell us in depth what will be new in 2017 we are still in time...) captions 1) “NOW I WILL SORT YOU OUT!”… SEEMS THINKING OUR MAN. SEE BELOW: A GROUP PHOTO OF OUR GIRLS THAT TAKE CARE OF THE CHAIN FOR THE HELMET’S ASSEMBLY. 2) ON THE LEFT, DANILO PIRAS IN THE LABORATORY WHERE IMPACT TEST ON THE HELMETS ARE MADE (BY FOLLOWING THE SAME METHODS OF THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT FOR CRASH-TEST). THE HEADS BELOW ARE USED, UPON LASER MARK, IN ORDER TO CORRECTLY CARRY OUT THE TEST. INSIDE GIVI WANTS TO BRIDGE THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND THAT OF OUR COMPANY PRESENTING YOU THE PEOPLE WHO INSIDE GIVI COVER ROLES OF RESPONSIBILITY. IN THIS EDITION OF THE MAGAZINE WE BARGE INTO THE HELMET DEPARTMENT. OUR STAR IS CALLED DANILO PIRAS.
