GIVI Magazine - Maggio 2017

ENGLISH TEXT TODAY WE ARE GOING TO DEAL WITH A TOPIC THAT CAN RAISE DOUBTS AND YOU MAY RIGHTLY ASK “WHAT IS THERE TO EXPLAIN? THE PLATE IS THE PART BETWEEN THE CASE HOLDER AND TOP-CASE”. WELL, IF YOU CONTINUE READING, YOU WILL DISCOVER THAT THINGS ARE NOT QUITE AS SIMPLE AS THEY MAY SEEM. Indeed, the plate has two main characteristics at GIVI: one is the hooking mechanism divided into the two different systems; Monokey and Monolock. Let’s take this step by step, starting from how we can recognise which hooking system you have (perhaps already fitted to the bike or attached to a “second hand” case-holder). MONOLOCK PLATE – It is recognisable by the "back deck" under which you will fit the two tabs found at the base of the top-case. At the front, there is the "stud", a kind of small pyramid that is going to be located near the release button of the top-case. With Monolock top-cases, there is always a plate with a universal fitting kit included. This is because these cases are designed for scooters that generally have a standardised luggage carrier / rack. MONOKEY PLATE – There are two small tabs, or two mushrooms depending on the model and material of the plate, that fit into the base of the top- case. Again, even in this instance, there is a pyramid (slightly larger than that on the Monolock plate) but it is located in the same position and has the same function. The two systems of top-case mountings were born to further define their individual performance and their destined usage. The MONOLOCK range is aimed at the urban user who travels in congested cities and needs practicality, durability, lightness and a reasonable cost. The MONOKEY range meets the needs of the rider who demands optimum performance and who uses their motorcycle to go on holiday, facing long trips or simply wants an accessory that is made without compromise. Two of the materials used for GIVI plates: reinforced techno-polymer with glass fibre or die-cast / laser cut aluminium The plates dedicated to the two GIVI coupling systems are also available in additional versions for specific uses. MONOLOCK® SYSTEM Z113C2 - Is the plate found in all MONOLOCK top-cases; made of nylon and supplied with a screw kit which allows the case to be mounted to tubular structures, such as the standard luggage carriers on many scooters and small motorcycles. MM - Is die-cast aluminiumand can be combinedwithM2/M3/MMandM35which allow the angle to be adjusted. It should be pairedwithGIVI luggage carriers F- FL and FZ. It is not suppliedwith a screw kit (as this is suppliedwith the joint set). The plate enables aMONOLOCK top-case to bemounted on heavy motorcycles. M5M - made from nylon, this plate replicates the design of the popular M5 but in a MONOLOCK version. Made to be compatible with GIVI luggage carriers F – FL and FZ to mount urban MONOLOCK top-cases onto heavy motorcycles. MONOKEY® SYSTEM M3 – Is found amongst the plates for the MONOKEY system; it can be matched with M2/M3/MM and M35 which allow the angle to be adjusted. Both the M3 and the MM are made of die-cast aluminum and must be combined with the GIVI luggage carriers F and FL which are the two categories that preceded the current FZ range. Some F and FL models are still available. It is, in essence, the MONOKEY version of the MM plate. M5 – Without doubt this GIVI MONOKEY plate is the most popular; it is the plate with the round GIVI logo on each side. Manufactured in nylon, it can be paired with the F – FZ and some SR luggage carriers. M7 - The stylistic evolution of the M5, fromwhich it takes the same production materials and features, but differs from the M5 by being more angular to better fit in with the “Japanese style” of some motorcycle models. E251 - The universal MONOKEY plate, made of nylon, is sold with a fitting kit of nuts and bolts, making this an extremely versatile version. The inner section of the plate is a honeycomb effect enabling the fixing screws to be located in various different positions. Find the ideal position for the E251 on scooters or motorcycles that have a standard tubular luggage carrier but also on boxed luggage racks (extreme versatility allows for fastening). It is easy to install in any home garage with just a few tools and a little dexterity. M8 - The latest plate, available in versions A (satin aluminium) and B (black anodized). The plate is made of lightweight alloy (5mm laser cut) and resumes the "tech" design of the SRA series luggage carriers that are completely made from aluminium and include a fitting plate as standard. The M8 is designed to be fitted as an alternative to the M5 or M7 and is compatible with almost all FZ and SR luggage carriers. On motorcycles such as powerful on or off-road machines the M8 integrates perfectly, by providing an extremely technical look. CONCLUSION Wewould like to remind you that there are load limits to take into account: 3kg and 10kg respectively for the nylon plates destined for eitherMONOLOCK or MONOKEY cases. For the aluminium plates, the load drops from 10kg to 6kg as the greater rigidity of the metal transmits the hardness of the road surface which can impact on the base of the top-case. Finally, we would like to remind you that in some instances, there is a 6 kg limit, irrespective of the plate being used and this limit is imposed by the bike manufacturer. Still associated to the issue of weight, there is one final point to clarify: the load limits indicated only refer to the internal load of the top-case and does not relate to the physical weight of the top-case itself. We hope we’ve clarified all your doubts, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through the Technical Area on our official blog (www.givipeople.com) We wish you all the best! GIVE ME A PLATE Yes… but which one? There are so many around… Givi Magazine May 2017 - Givi Tech  25
