GIVI Magazine - Maggio 2018
What did you bring to the company? A breath of technical / intellectual freshness? Or are you still in the phase "in the meantime I’ll learn and then we’ll see?" The company relies on us and is involved in the development of a line of more youthful accessories. Our peers go around with a certain type of bike and associate GIVI as being a manufacturer of cases, an object that they consider not too inclined with their way of conceiving moving on two wheels. As enthusiasts we aim at products designed for 40-year-old motorcyclists suitable for more sporty use. Well, the image of GIVI has long been present in the racing world, especially in MotoGP. And in the range of helmets there is a high quality carbon fiber sports accessory... We all think we need to believe in ourselves more. The helmet is beautiful but we find the graphics to be a bit too timid compared to the technical and comfort potential of this model. And then it is not easy to find and try them in shops and they are not even suggested. This is based on personal experience. Knowing that these revelations will appear in the pages of GIVI MAGAZINE ... you still have time for a retraction... We are aware that the segment of sports helmets is inflated. But why not make space with dedicated graphics, perhaps proposing a MotoGP replica? Cecchinello said that after Repsol, GIVI is the most recognizable brand in MotoGP; we should take advantage of this visibility. You guys do go straight to the point. Do you acknowledge that a good step forward, always with respect to the past, has been made in the off- road world? And not just for street enduro motorbikes Yes, in fact the new lines of soft bags are getting excellent results. Are you also engaged in any external events related to the company? We work extremely hard at the GIVIDAYS. We talk with the vendors, we listen to the users, and we dispense technical advice. All of us take turns, but the experience is certainly rewarding and enriching. Investing in research and development is the right thing to do, but the arrival of four new engineers and designers in just a short space of time is not exactly the norm. Perhaps it’s because you are all very good? We think that Mr Visenzi truly believes in the potential and innovation that a youth’s point of view can bring to the table. Our likeability did the rest ... haha hahahaha ahah. What’s your take on Mr Visenzi... the boss? He is a champion. Despite his age, he has a 360-degree field of vision in respect of the future of this sector that we can only dream about. A few days ago he criticized one of our R & D colleagues, who in turn replied that he would check the computer, etc. Well it turned out that Mr. Visenzi was right and without the need for technical confirmation. In short, his experience goes beyond numbers. For some years now, GIVI has been focusing more on soft bags rather than cases. Is the topcase market saturated and does the scooter crisis go further? As for our target, young people who ride small motorcycles almost always discard the idea of mounting a case. More generally we believe that sometimes the user is doubtful, sometimes scared by the choice of mounting not so much a case (if you own a scooter it is almost impossible to do without) but the rigid side bags. The "soft alternatives" or "preformed" often help to form a decision. They are less invasive on the vehicle and easy to remove. However, in the range, there are fixing kits to attach really minimal cases that can be quickly detached from the motorcycle frame. Rigid cases are more robust and could protect the legs in the event of a fall…. Let's put it this way. There are so many possible solutions (see also the many plates available) that people find it difficult to know them and the dealer often does not market them. From a retailer we happened to explain the Tanklock system to regular customers. They weren’t aware of its existence... Those who buy specialist magazines definitely know this quick hook. Motociclismo has just made a comparison between tank bags with flanges and GIVI was first in the ranking drawn up by the monthly magazine. Then there is the support of the official website, with its specific areas dedicated to the motorcyclist looking for products for his/her motorcycle or scooter. It may seem strange but these tools are underused. The technical area of the GIVI PEOPLE blog is full of requests for information that can be found directly and easily on the official website. And this also applies to many of the questions that are addressed to customer care ... to which we are often called to answer... We went a bit off-topic there but I think your point of view deserves some attention. One last question, addressed to everyone, and then we go to the individual "face to face" interviews: do you work exclusively on the product lines for the western market? I (Andrea Z.) was asked to collaborate on products destined for other markets. The message, however, is to offer a design standard which is always at the highest level; therefore every project should have to move from Flero, at least at the level of approval and control. ANDREA ZAMBELLI You are the only one of the four who did not attend the faculty of engineering. What are your qualifications? I started attending the Art School in Mantua. Later I attended the LABA in Brescia. Three years of design, my Degree and then Masters in Industrial Design & Research, all in the same school. I'm now waiting to present my Master thesis in July. What is the topic of your Thesis? A medical device for physiotherapy. Unfortunately it’s not in the automotive sector. What are your duties within GIVI? Currently I'm still doing one stage and that will continue until the end of July, but I'm already involved as a designer on some products and accessories that will be released for the new season; mainly soft bags. How did you join the company? I was pleasantly impressed by the stimulating environment and the continuous comparison with colleagues: the rest of the team supports me and teaches me how to proceed. For example, pointing out to me ways of proceeding in certain areas. For example, pointing out to me problems relating to comfort of use, etc. As you do not yet ride a motorcycle or a scooter, so what are your passions? Everything related to the design world (especially the automotive sector), sport in general and football in particular, which I have been practicing since I was a child. I follow the MotoGP assiduously. What are your ambitions? I hope to continue working in this company. The automotive sector is the sector of reference for me. The design of motorcycle accessories is very interesting and allows me to give free rein to my creativity. Evolution is wide and a lot can be done. In spite of your brief business experience, do you have any ideas on how to improve the job planning within the R & D Department? For my training it is important to work in teams immediately. More points of view allow one to start on the right foot. Changing ideas halfway through the task can slow down a current project. So I'm in line with the current policies. Which products have you helped to create so far? The universal M9 aluminum plate, which will soon be available on the market. And then to a line of soft bags that will be released in 2019. • FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: PAOLO, FRANCESCO, ANDREA Z. AND ANDREA R. DO YOU ENJOY ASSEMBLING SCALE MODELS? THESE GUYS DON’T, SO BE CAREFUL NOT TO LEAVE YOUR MOTORCYCLE UNATTENDED WHEN THEY ARE AROUND! • POSING IN FRONT OF THE ENTRANCE TO THE “UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI BRESCIA” (UNIVERSITY OF BRESCIA). THERE IS NO DOUBTING THAT THEY EACH DISPLAY THE DNA OF "PROJECT DESIGNERS FOR THE MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY". 42 Givi Inside
