GIVI MAGAZINE - JUNE 2024

The author has made his living as a journalist since 2002. He has worked for automotive magazines and covered Formula 1 GPs, MotoGPs and MxGPs, WRC and WTCC races, two (Paris) Dakars, a 24 Hours of Le Mans and an Indianapolis 500 as a correspondent. He’s travelled to Northern Ireland at least 20 times to cover road races, seven of those times were for the races which he describes in this book (his first), and he knows practically everything about them. The road races take place among people, near homes. They are always spectacular. The TT is the most famous, but the one he describes in this book seems to beat them all. The North West 200 is the best one because the motorcycles start directly from the grid, there are fights at 320 km/h, the programme is concentrate over a few days, the route is short (the Triangle measures approximately 14 km), the weather is unpredictable, and the setting, Northern Ireland’s stunning north coast, is unparalleled. The first edition of this race dates back to 1929. The book tells its story and intertwines the stories of the more or less famous drivers who have raced, from the legend Joey Dunlop to the Ducati legend Carl Fogarty and Mike “the bike” Hailwood, Robert Dunlop, etc. But there is a lot of Italy, starting with Stefano Bonetti, the only non-English speaker to win the NW200 in 2019 on a Paton, but having appeared on the podium once before. The book also has a travel guide people wanting to travel from Italy to see the NW200 spending as little as possible. The author gives advice on travel in country, even publishing the bus schedules for the necessary routes, as well as information on passes and parking and recommendations on the region’s natural and artistic attractions. An exceptionally effective handbook impossible to find online. DETAILS: Pages: 256; publisher: Giorgio Nada; publication date: 17 April 2024. Price: 24.00 euro An updated version of a “volume” not rewarding in terms of the number of pages but full of useful information. The author has long shown a particular affinity for the USA, an area he knows very well, dedicating nearly ten books to it. Route 66 is called “the Mother Road” for the importance it embodies. This ribbon of asphalt crosses the United States on a journey over land and through time, which the author narrates with passion and enthusiasm because, above all, he loves all things America. In the new edition, there are maps of each state, a recommended travel path, possible detours, travel advice, and information on how to drive in the USA. L’autore fornisce consigli sugli spostamenti interni, pubblicando persino gli orari dei pullman in vigore sulle tratte da affrontare, così come le indicazioni su pass e parcheggi, oltre a suggerimenti sulle bellezze naturali e NORTH WEST 200 LA CORSA PIÙ BELLA AL MONDO and the story of the most famous road in the world, with information about each of the eight states it crosses. There are recommendations for motels, diners, and attractions. His travel journal is also enhanced compared to the first edition and will help travellers make plan and make decisions about each step, recommending gems that you will not want to miss. If you know where to look, Route 66 will take you to places where it seems everything has been the same since the 1950s.
